Black Spark Dark Magic Enforcer Volume 1 Al K Line 9781530432110 Books
I have read several of Al K. Line's books, starting early on with his Zombie Botnet series and have been a big fan ever since. This book is awesome, I simply loved it. As always, his descriptions of the characters are so vivid, I can really get into the story. This first book makes me want to read the rest in this series, I think there are currently 7 more? The main character Faz Pound has been through a lot, and you can't help but feel for the guy. You learn to respect his magic, and learn to despise some of the older vampire characters. I never would have known what an imp might look like, but I guess I know now. Quite the little characters for sure!

Black Spark Dark Magic Enforcer Volume 1 Al K Line 9781530432110 Books Reviews
Other reviewers have filled in the characters and action so I will just say that Faz Pound, aka Black Spark, is a marvelous character and Al. K. Line has created a rich universe for him. The characters are memorable, the plot twists are ingenious and I buy every new book as they are released.
If you're considering this book (which I strongly recommend), know this you have five more that are currently available. This means that you will have hours of pleasurable reading as you follow Faz, Kate, Grandma and vicariously enjoy Madge's fry-up, which might clog your arteries just reading about it.
Super Fun! It took me a beat to warm up to Sparks self narrating but the story and Characters, the world of Cardiff, all together a great bit of world building. I'm posting this review on book one but i just finished book three. These books are fast reads and paced well. Great urban Mystery and magic. Get them. )
I haven't written a review in a long time and I read so many books they seem a blur most of the time, But I wanted to take a minute and share that this book is really something special. I just love the main character. He sort of reminds me of Dresden in that he is sarcastic even in the face of a possible beat down. The magic system is unique as far as I can tell. I don't remember anything exactly like it. I am buying the second book now and can't wait to get started!
I did not expect much, based on the title (shades of Monty Python). Surprise Surprise --- this is a tightly woven novel, solid writing, engaging self-deprecating protagonist , tantalizing background and secondary characters. Darker , more bittersweet than many other stories in this genre. Yes I do recommend it
For various reasons, this book was difficult to read. To me, books have rhythm but with this book, I couldn't catch the rhythm. This probably doesn't make sense but I don't know how else to describe it. It took me days to finish reading. Normally, for a book this size I would have finished it in two days or less.
The author created good characters. They were funny and complex at the same time. There was always action. Spark had the longest and busiest two days ever.
I might give one more book a try. If we're in sync, I'll go the distance with all the books with this character.
Black Spark
Dark Magic Enforcer Series, Book 1
By Al K. Line
Narrated by Gildart Jackson
This was hard to get through, at least the first third of the way. I almost stopped and quit many times. Once I got half way, it picked up and went much better and was a pretty good book. I am going to get the next book because I am hoping it will be better idea behind the story sounds good.
The narrator has such a thick British accent that it was frustrating at times. It is hard to do humor and I think another narrator might have been a better pick. Some very good lines were not funny when they should have been. It is not easy to do...just saying.
This is my first Al K Line book, though I've been meaning to read many of his books for a while now. The cover on this one got me, even though I don't usually read much UF with male leads. I can't imagine why that is, because damn, I'm loving it! Faz aka Black Spark was a FANTASTIC character and the whole time I was reading this I kept thinking This needs to be a movie. Or a TV show. Or both. It would be my new addition, a show or movie about a Dark Magic enforced who strips people of their ability to use magic if they abuse that power. And the whole lost memory angle--yeah, it's been done before, but NOT LIKE THIS. Al K Line left no aspect of the story unfleshed, delving into rich details of the politics of his world building as well as the magic itself. This is a fun, fast paced, GRITTY read. Highly recommended.
